Icona Pop’s “I Love It” Is My Summer Anthem
If you’re anything like me, this year’s unofficial song of summer – Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe” – lost its appeal shortly after its fifth radio rotation. However, I come bearing good news for those in need of a carefree summer jam! Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt are the delicious duo behind electropop group Icona Pop, and their latest single “I Love It” is my new #everything.
After a chance meeting in 2009, this Sweden-born, London-based pair booked a gig before they had even written a song. In describing their sound, Icona Pop says, “We like galloping drums and synthesisers, but we still like the classic pop melodies. And that’s ‘what we are’. We don’t have to decide, because there’s no decision to be made. We just have to do exactly what we want.” This sentiment dominates the unrestrained music video for, “I Love It.” Our favorite lyric? “You’re from the 70s, but I’m a 90s b*tch!”
Their untitled debut album is due out sometime in 2012, but until then, you can satisfy your cravings here.
